Historical Note

The exact origination of Dakshina Mara Nadar Sangam is unknown and expected to be before 18th century.

  • 7.1.1867 – The property of the pettai was transferred and registered to Kailasam Chettiar through Adhitha Nadar.
  • 1874 – Vegampoor in Dindugul district had pettai for Dakshina Mara Nadars and it was called Karuppukatti Pettai.
  • 1888 – Shri Vaigundam Pettai was purchased for Dakshin Nadars.
  • 20.9.1889 – Registered proof for, Manikka Nadar registering to Gnaanakan Thiravia Nadar, for Dhakshin Nadars
  • 20.9.1890 – Proof for transfer to Yukob Nadar, Duraisamy Nadar and a few more individuals.
  • 1896 -1898 – Thomas Nadar built a bungalow at Shri Vaigundam Pettai. ‘Sandror Sangam’, the book published in the year of 1912, denotes that Shri Vaigundam Pettai belongs to all the Dakshin Nadars.
  • 10.11.1898 – Registration proof for the property given by Palani Kadhar Mohammed Ravudhar to the Dakshina Mara Nadars
  • 1898 – Dakshina Mara Nadars started a trust.
  • 1904 – Yearly income of the Pettai was more than Rs. 10,000.
  • 1904 – ‘Dhakshin Deepam’, a magazine, was released.
  • 1904 – Inauguration of Dakshina Mara Nadar Sangam.
  • 1904 – Dakshina Mara Nadar Pettai fund was started.
  • 1904 – It was insisted that all the Nadars in Dakshina Mara Nadar Uravin Murai should abide by all the verdicts. Unity is strength was the first verdict.
  • 1910 – Virudhunagar Pettai was registered with 10 members, including S. Sivandhi Adhithan Nadar and Kumara Adhitha Nadar.
  • 1923 – Tuticorin Dakshina Mara Nadar Mahamai Paribalana Sangam was registered Undered the . There were 49 pettai for the Dakshina Mara Nadars.
  • 1925 – Decided to start a new Sangam.
  • 1927 – Resolution was passed on to begin a new Sangam.
  • 1928 – Resolution was passed to start plenty of New Sangams in different cities.
  • 1930 – Land was purchased for Rajapalayam pettai from the Mahamai (contributing one sixth of the income as tax Royalty to the Elder Uravinmurai or Kindred group) of 7 individuals.
  • 1932 – The conference held on 20.8.1932 at Tuticorin Pettai decided to bring all the Pettai under one single association.
  • 1933 – In the session held on 18.2.1933 at Thiruchendhur, a resolution was passed to legally bring all the Pettai under one single association through the court of law.
  • 1934 – Dakshina Maranadu Nadar Sangam Ikiya Mahamai Pribalana Sangam was initiated on 17.11.1934 in Thirunelveli and take over the management and the central control and .
  • 1942 – Copies of different schemes were produced in the Sub-court of Thirunelveli.
  • 1943 – Dakshina Mara Nadar Sangam was originated and it started to act from September 1 1943. Dakshina Mara Nadar includes Nadars of all religions except the Muslims who live the frontier area that is enclosed by Vaipparu in the North, Arabian Sea in the West, Bay of Bengal in the East and Indian Ocean in the South.
